My Experience at the Career Center
Even though the Career Center is a resource available to UCR students, I never really used it to my advantage. It wasn’t until my senior year when I started getting really nervous about the future and thought, “Hm, maybe I should see what the Career Center can do.” To cut it short, double majoring opened up a wide array of options for the future and I didn’t know what was best for me. So, I scheduled an appointment with the Career Center for some career counseling.

I was able to meet with an awesome lady named Jill (Jill, if you’re reading this…you’re awesome! And thank you!) who helped me with my life dilemma. Besides actively listening to my life story, which was probably long and dreadful to hear, I talked about what I liked to do and we started off with a simple brainstorm to list areas of work and job titles I possibly could see myself having. In the end, she was able to answer all my questions, give great advice, and effectively narrow down my career options. We met more than once and after each session my mind was set, motivated, and positive about my future.

Due to my awesome experience, I definitely encourage all students to take this opportunity to really use the Career Center as well as any other services available at UCR. Besides career counseling, they also offer a variety resources as well. From workshops to job fairs, they really prepare students for their futures. You can even come in to get your resume critiqued! I always forget that they’re here solely for us. Don’t miss this chance like I almost did!
